David Esses, MD, is Vice Chair, Emergency Department and Professor, Emergency Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. He is also Interim Chair, Emergency Medicine at Montefiore Einstein.

In 1981, Dr. Esses received his Bachelor of Science, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the same institution in 1985. Dr. Esses completed his residency training in internal medicine at Montefiore.

Dr. Esses’ research focuses on the treatment of acute pain in the emergency department setting and includes several trials comparing different intravenous pharmaceutical agents in the treatment of acute pain. He has shared his work through national conference presentations. His publications number over 40 manuscripts including a publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2017 comparing opioid to non-opioid management of acute extremity pain.

Dr. Esses is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.

My research focus has been heavily weighted toward the treatment of acute pain in the ED setting. We've conducting many trials comparing different IV pharmaceutical agents in the treatment of acute pain.
