Sujatha Ramachandran, MD, is Vice Chair, Education and Professor, Anesthesiology at Montefiore Einstein. A talented cardiothoracic anesthesiologist, Dr. Ramachandran works on a multidisciplinary team that serves patients undergoing advanced cardiac procedures. She is an expert in caring for patients coming to Montefiore Einstein for a variety of cardiothoracic surgeries including heart and lung transplants

In 1994, Dr. Ramachandran earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India. She later came to the United States, completing her internship in general surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in 1999. She then came to Montefiore to complete her anesthesiology residency in 2002, acting as Chief Resident in her final year, followed by her cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship in 2003.

Passionate about comprehensive graduate medical education, Dr. Ramachandran has published on the subjects of improving the anesthesiology residency curriculum and training residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also published work on a variety of other topics including the Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) Model, team building in the operating room through education, and the impact of perioperative efficiency on patient care.

Dr. Ramachandran is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and is certified in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. She is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Anesthesiologists the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and the Society for Education in Anesthesiology. She has been recognized for excellence in leadership and medical education, receiving the MHS Anesthesiology Excellence Award, Leadership in 2022, the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2022 and the Society of Education in Anesthesiology/American Society of Anesthesiologists Distinguished Educator Award in 2019.
