Mark H. Einstein, MD, is the Chella & Moise Safra Endowed Chair and Department Chair, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Einstein is an internationally renowned expert in gynecologic oncology and gynecologic cancer prevention. He is very active clinically and manages complicated gynecologic precancers and malignancies using state-of-the-art evidence-based clinical and surgical strategies. He also leads and offers clinical trial options.

Throughout his career, Dr. Einstein has demonstrated his commitment to caring for underserved and vulnerable patient populations, with direct experience and success as a clinician, surgeon-scientist, educator, mentor, and administrator. He is internationally acclaimed as a clinician-scientist and brings a national leadership profile that will help sustain Montefiore Einstein’s stature as a top-rated and highly respected academic medical center.

After completing a combined BS/MD program at the University of Miami in 1995, Dr. Einstein completed a residency in obstetrics & gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey in 1999. He completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Montefiore Einstein in 2002, then stayed on as faculty as a clinician and researcher and, early in his career, he earned his Master of Science in clinical research methods in 2005.

Dr. Einstein’s research focuses on the human papillomavirus (HPV). He has been principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous funded research projects and clinical trials and his work has been published in over 140 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Einstein has also given numerous invited presentations nationally and internationally, and is a reviewer for several scientific journals.

As a surgical specialist who has mentored dozens of junior faculty, Dr. Einstein brings a strong commitment to diversity and has a long track record of appreciation for the contributions of faculty who come from all training and demographic backgrounds. He is firmly committed to a culture of mutual respect and support, advocating its critical role in a health system’s success. Additionally, as a surgeon and scientist, he has a results-proven track record of his collaborative ability to operationalize translational medicine teams and clinical programs across disciplines.

Dr. Einstein is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He holds and has held many leadership roles in the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO), The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), and the Society of Lower Genital Tract Diseases (ASCCP). He is also an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics.
