Hillary C. Yaffe, MD, is an abdominal organ transplant surgeon and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. She is also the Program Director, Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Yaffe’s clinical focus is kidney, liver and pancreas transplants. She also performs some general surgery operations for transplant candidates and recipients.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and biology at Brandeis University in 2003, Dr. Yaffe pursued her Master of Medical Science at Drexel University, earning the degree in 2005. She then attended the New York State/American Program with the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2011. She completed her general surgery residency training at Montefiore Einstein between 2011 and 2018, which included 5 clinical years and two research years as the Gliedman Research Scholar with surgery and radiation oncology from 2013 to 2015. Dr. Yaffe then went on to the University of Colorado School of Medicine to complete a two-year transplant surgery fellowship between 2018 and 2020. She joined the faculty of Montefiore Einstein in September 2020.

Dr. Yaffe’s research focuses on outcomes of kidney, pancreas, and liver transplantation. In particular, she has studied outcomes of living donor liver transplant from offspring donors versus non-offspring donors, and graft and patient survival following transplantation of kidneys from small pediatric donors less than 6 years of age and with an average weight of 10-21 kg. Her work has been shared through peer-reviewed journals and abstracts as well as posters and presentations.

Dr. Yaffe is board certified in general surgery and is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the New York Surgical Society.
