Sammar R. Alsunaid, MD, FCCP, DAABIP, is an attending physician at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of end-stage lung disease, lung transplant and advanced airway and pleural interventions.

After earning her Doctor of Medicine at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, in 2006, Dr. Alsunaid started her postdoctoral training with a three-year residency at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She later came to the United States, expanding her training through several clinical observerships and externships followed by a three-year internal medicine residency at Michigan State University, which she completed in 2016. She then pursued a pulmonary and critical care fellowship from 2016 to 2019 at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. In 2020, she completed her interventional pulmonology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She then came to Montefiore Einstein to complete her advanced pulmonary failure and lung transplantation fellowship in 2021.

Dr. Alsunaid’s research interests focus on lung transplant, rejection, graft failure and airway complications. Her findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, case reports and book chapters. She has also shared her work regionally, nationally and internationally through conference presentations.

Dr. Alsunaid is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Diplomate of the American Board of Interventional Pulmonology. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. She is a member of several professional organizations including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Association for Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology and the American College of Chest Physicians, among others.
