Jenny Teresa Bencardino, MD, is Vice-Chair, Academic Affairs and Professor, Radiology at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical interests focus on the imaging diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of sports-related injuries of the musculoskeletal system and peripheral nerves.

In 1991, Dr. Bencardino earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. She completed her radiology residency at the Hospital of San Ignacio, Pontificia Universidad in 1995. Dr. Bencardino came to the United States as a research musculoskeletal radiology fellow at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, which was followed by a yearlong musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at the same institution in 1997. She then completed residency training at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center earning her American Board of Radiology certification in 2000.

Dr. Bencardino’s research efforts include the development and validation of MRI metrics for the diagnosis and follow-up of diseases affecting the microstructure and function of articular cartilage, bone, muscle and nerves. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, poster presentations and invited lectures. Dr. Bencardino is also a peer reviewer for several scientific journals including Skeletal Radiology, Radiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She is also co-Editor of the MRI Clinics of North America.

Dr. Bencardino is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. She is a member of the International Skeletal Society (ISS), the Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the European College of Radiology and the American College of Radiology. She has received multiple accolades throughout her career, including the President’s Medal from the International Skeletal Society in 2013, the Honored Educator Award from the Radiological Society of North America in 2014 and the Medal of the ISS in 2023.
