Dagny E. von Ahrens, MD, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. von Ahrens’ clinical focus is in liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation as well as minimally invasive and hepatobiliary surgery.

After completing her Bachelor of Science in biology at American University in 2010, Dr. von Ahrens attended Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2014. She started her general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in 2014 before coming to Einstein to complete a research fellowship in surgical oncology from 2016 to 2017. She then went on to complete her general surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell in 2020. In 2022, Dr. von Ahrens completed her two-year transplant/hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. von Ahrens’ research focuses on outcomes in liver and kidney transplantation as well as benign and malignant diseases of the liver and pancreas. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journal articles and oral and poster presentations.

Dr. von Ahrens is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the International Hepatopancreaticobiliary Association.
