After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biology at the State University of New York at Albany in 2010, Dr. da Costa earned his Doctor of Medicine from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School – UMDNJ in 2014. Building on his clinical focus, Dr. da Costa’s research focuses on novel tools to improve bronchoscopy diagnostics and therapeutics for lung cancer. Some examples of his research include a project assessing microbiome in pleural effusions of patients who had PleurX catheters placed, a project assessing outcomes of tunneled indwelling pleural catheters for malignant pleural effusions in patients with socioeconomic disparities and a project assessing the appropriateness of ICU days for patients. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and he has given presentations nationwide.
