Lionel S. Zuckier, MD, MBA, FRCPC, is Division Head, Nuclear Medicine at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Radiology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Zuckier’s clinical focus includes all facets of the practice of nuclear medicine, including PET and single photon imaging, theranostics and therapy, cardiovascular nuclear medicine and bone mineral densitometry.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in physics from Yeshiva University in 1977, Dr. Zuckier came to Einstein for his medical education, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1982. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in 1983, then returned to Einstein to complete his nuclear medicine residency in 1985, taking on the role of Chief Resident in his final year. He continued at Einstein to complete his radiology residency in 1989, followed by his research fellowship in B-cell Immunology, which he completed in 1995 in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Scharff. In 2015, Dr. Zuckier completed his Master of Business Administration at University of Massachusetts Amherst Isenberg School of Management.
Dr. Zuckier’s research interests extend to several areas of nuclear medicine including lung scintigraphy for the diagnosis of embolism, and brain perfusion scintigraphy, used as an ancillary examination in the determination of death by neurologic criteria. He is currently involved in the testing of new theranostic radiopharmaceuticals. He has shared his work through articles and letters in peer-reviewed journals, books, abstracts and symposia. Dr. Zuckier has also served on the editorial boards of several medical research journals and has contributed to several professional practice guidelines.
Dr. Zuckier is board certified in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a member of several professional societies including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the Radiological Society of North America, the American College of Radiology and the Canadian Association of Nuclear Medicine.
