Medical Genetics Residency
Our Medical Genetics Residency Program offers an educational environment designed to produce highly competent, compassionate healthcare professionals. We train residents to become independent thinkers, effective communicators, lifelong learners, knowledgeable teachers, successful laboratory managers and valued members of the patient care team. We are committed to training a new generation of women’s health experts who will be leaders in their field and who are well-prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
Training includes:
- Prenatal diagnosis
- Evaluation for pediatric and adult genetic disorders
- Evaluation for hereditary cancer syndromes
- Laboratory genetic test evaluation for patients in multiple disciplines, providing correlation and management
Research & Scholarly Activity
- Opportunities for research, both clinical and laboratory, within our department or within other departments at the medical school and hospital
- Opportunities to present at local, regional, national and international meetings
- Medical genetics trainees are encouraged to submit presentations for the American Society of Human Genetics meeting in the fall and the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics meeting in the spring. In addition, a metabolic course for trainees is offered in the first year.
