Montefiore Einstein Gynecologic Surgery is a globally recognized leader, providing state-of-the-art, personalized care for women of all ages with the full spectrum of gynecologic conditions—from abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids and endometriosis to menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, gynecologic cancers and ovarian cysts. Our multidisciplinary team comprises world-renowned surgeons, board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, including those with subspecialized expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS). We collaborate closely with specialists across the health system to deliver seamless, coordinated care and ensure the best possible outcomes for each patient.

Our surgeons have unparalleled expertise in advanced minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, vaginal and robot-assisted approaches, as well as open surgery when necessary to ensure each patient receives the most appropriate, effective and individualized treatment. We prioritize minimally invasive methods using small or no incisions to minimize pain, promote faster recovery and preserve fertility. As early adopters of minimally invasive techniques, we effectively treat conditions that once required open procedures, underscoring our leadership in the field.

We are an international referral site for the most complex cases and are ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for cancer care and among the highest performing hospitals in the nation for gynecological cancer surgery, according to U.S. News & World Report. Our Program is integrated with our Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is among the elite 1% of National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.

Setting the Standard in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

We are advancing surgical care through research, innovation and the integration and development of new surgical techniques, including the latest minimally invasive techniques, to enhance precision, improve safety and optimize outcomes. Many of our procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and incorporate enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols and advanced multimodal pain management strategies to reduce opioid use, accelerate recovery and enhance the overall patient care experience. We offer advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS), positioning us at the forefront of innovation and emerging developments in the field. Our continued leadership in pioneering new techniques and technologies allows us to provide the most advanced, effective and individualized surgical solutions available in women’s health today.

We use the latest and most advanced technologies, including 3D laparoscopic visualization, fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green (ICG) for perfusion mapping in robotic surgery, as well as intraoperative ultrasound and near-infrared imaging, to enhance precision, safety and real-time decision-making during surgery.

At the forefront of newly emerging surgical innovation, we also offer the latest advances in minimally invasive techniques such as natural orifice specimen extraction (NOSE) and vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES)—a “scarless” approach performed through the vaginal canal.

Our expertise spans the full spectrum of gynecologic procedures—from routine to highly specialized—including uterine-sparing, fertility-preserving and oncologic surgeries. Research & Clinical Trials

We are leading collaborative research and spearheading numerous studies and clinical trials, including several funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), translating novel scientific discoveries into new diagnostics and treatments to help improve clinical outcomes. Through our clinical trials, our patients can access emerging technologies and innovative treatments that may otherwise be unavailable to the general public.

Our research spans basic, translational and clinical science, with a focus on advancing the understanding and management of complex gynecologic and women’s health conditions. Core areas of investigation include the development of novel surgical technologies and techniques, strategies to improve perioperative outcomes—including the prevention of surgical site infections—enhancement of the patient experience across the surgical care continuum and the evaluation and implementation of ERAS protocols. Our researchers are also exploring the clinical applications of emerging minimally invasive approaches, such as vNOTES.

Additional research efforts include advancements and updates in uterine artery embolization techniques for the management of leiomyomas, as well as the integration of surgical ergonomics education within minimally invasive gynecologic skills training aimed at improving surgeon well-being and optimizing technical performance. We also contributed to the development of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) endometriosis classification—a new anatomy-based surgical complexity score designed to more reliably differentiate levels of surgical complexity and inform clinical decision-making.

About Gynecologic Conditions

Gynecologic conditions include a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the female reproductive system, including the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, vagina and pelvic floor. These conditions range from benign to complex structural or malignant diseases and can impact menstruation, fertility, pelvic function and overall quality of life. They may include uterine conditions such as fibroids, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, endometrial hyperplasia and uterine cancer; cervical and vaginal conditions including cervical dysplasia, cervical or vaginal cancer, polyps and Bartholin’s gland cysts; endometriosis and pelvic pain syndromes including dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea and pelvic adhesions; ovarian and adnexal conditions such as ovarian cysts, torsion, endometriomas and malignancies; pelvic floor disorders including uterine prolapse, cystocele and rectocele; and tubal conditions such as blocked fallopian tubes, ectopic pregnancy and salpingitis. A multidisciplinary, individualized approach, integrating prevention, early detection and both medical and surgical treatment, is essential to achieving the best possible outcomes and supporting reproductive and overall health throughout a woman’s life. When needed, gynecologic surgery can play a key role in managing these conditions, using the most effective approach—from conventional open procedures to advanced minimally invasive and fertility-preserving techniques—to enhance safety, precision and optimal recovery.

Conditions We Treat
