Shoulder & Elbow Reconstruction Fellowship

This one-year fellowship, accredited by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), offers extensive clinical experience in the operative and nonoperative management of shoulder and elbow conditions and includes a significant research component.

While training, fellows work closely with the attending surgeons in Montefiore Einstein’s Shoulder and Elbow Service. In the fellowship program, they gain experience treating patients with a wide variety of pathologies, including conditions of traumatic, degenerative and athletic etiology. Our fellows have the opportunity to participate in the orthopedic management of college athletic teams.

Curriculum

As part of their curriculum, fellows evaluate patients pre- and postoperatively and actively participate in operative cases. Fellows gain experience performing advanced methods of both arthroscopic and open surgery, and they benefit from the large annual volume of shoulder and elbow procedures performed each year. In addition to the clinical education received during attending office hours and weekly conferences, fellows participate in formal didactic lectures and take an active role in resident education.

Research

Fellows are required to complete two research projects in publishable form by the end of their fellowship year, focused on either clinical or basic science. Fellows also participate in our Multidisciplinary Shoulder Research Group, together with a research coordinator, rheumatologists, physical therapists, pain management physicians and shoulder surgeons.
