Residency Programs
Residents choose Montefiore Einstein because of the breadth and depth of clinical experience, collaborative environments and mentorship opportunities available. Over the course of their training, residents are provided broad surgical exposure, structured didactics and ample research opportunities.
The Montefiore Einstein Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accepts six residents each year. We are located in the New York City borough of the Bronx, the most diverse county in the country.
Accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME), the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at Montefiore Einstein is a three-year, comprehensive program that provides our residents with an excellent medical and surgical background, preparing them to manage a spectrum of podiatric problems.
Fellowship Programs
Montefiore Einstein Orthopedic Surgery offers four one-year, subspecialty fellowships for advanced training in orthopedic oncology, pediatric orthopedic surgery, shoulder and elbow reconstruction and adult reconstruction. Our fellowships provide opportunities for in-depth, comprehensive clinical and research exposure designed to build on general orthopedic training.
Our Adult Reconstruction Fellowship Program offers exceptional training in all aspects of adult reconstruction. Fellows gain extensive hands-on experience, participating regularly in cases led by our seven fellowship-trained surgeons who are board certified in adult reconstruction surgery. We perform approximately 1,800 total joint replacements per year, and trainees participate in roughly 500 to 600 cases over the course of their fellowship year.
As an advanced academic health system and referral center, Montefiore Einstein helps fellows gain ample experience in primary and revision total joint arthroplasty, including complex cases such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), periprosthetic joint infection, fracture and severe deformity (congenital, acquired and post-traumatic).
Montefiore Einstein Orthopedic Oncology offers a fellowship with a unique focus on translational laboratory research in the field of sarcoma. Providing clinical exposure, operative experience and formal didactics, this one-year position is particularly well-suited for candidates interested in pursuing a career as a clinician-scientist. It is supported by the nationally recognized Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Montefiore Einstein Orthopedic Surgery offers a one-year Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship, combining clinical training and research opportunities. Applicants must be orthopedic surgeons who have completed their formal orthopedic surgery residency program.
As part of their training, fellows serve as an integral part of our team and are responsible for overseeing all aspects of patient care, including family interaction. Fellows also assist in training our medical students and residents.
This one-year fellowship, accredited by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), offers extensive clinical experience in the operative and nonoperative management of shoulder and elbow conditions and includes a significant research component.
While training, fellows work closely with the attending surgeons in Montefiore Einstein’s Shoulder and Elbow Service. In the fellowship program, they gain experience treating patients with a wide variety of pathologies, including conditions of traumatic, degenerative and athletic etiology. Our fellows have the opportunity to participate in the orthopedic management of college athletic teams.
