Infertility – Assisted Reproductive Technologies
At the Montefiore Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health (MIRMH), we know that the experience of seeking help for infertility can be a stressful and emotional process. When a woman or couple visits our office, we strive to make the process of diagnosis and treatment as easy as possible. Our expertise in an array of procedures allows us to offer the best treatment for each individual case.
Accurate Diagnosis
There are a variety of barriers to pregnancy, and the first important step is to accurately diagnose the source of the problem. Once our doctors have determined the cause of infertility, we draw on our years of experience at the forefront of the infertility field and our knowledge of ongoing research to decide on the most effective treatment from among the Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Those options may include:
- Surgery to open fallopian tubes (laparoscopy)
- Surgery to make the uterus a better environment for conception
- Ovulation stimulation through injections or pills
- Egg retrieval
- Fertilization
- Embryo transfer
We are also conscious of the reality that many factors cause these treatments to have varying degrees of success in different cases. Our skillful dedication to accurate assessment allows us to achieve the best results possible, while avoiding the physical and emotional stress of a procedure that is unlikely to result in pregnancy. By carefully counseling our patients about these factors, we help them make informed decisions about the best path forward for their situation.
Advancements in Care
Infertility treatment is a field that benefits from constant advancements in knowledge and technology. There are a variety of groundbreaking procedures that have been introduced in the last decade alone. For example, there are now treatments that can ensure fertilization of the egg, such as an embryo transfer, even in cases where there is a low sperm count due to a vasectomy or other factors.
Sensitive Emotional Support
Our sensitivity to the complex emotions related to infertility includes a commitment to educating patients to help them feel empowered and in control of their bodies and treatment. We also have a staff psychologist who can support patients and help them to stay committed to their infertility treatment for as long as it may take.
