The Division of Pulmonary Medicine
Part of the Department of Medicine, the Division of Pulmonary Medicine is equipped with advanced pulmonary function and sleep laboratories, as well as state-of-the-art bronchoscopy equipment for lung diagnostics. Our highly experienced, board-certified physicians and pulmonary medicine specialists provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to patients with all types of lung and respiratory conditions, from asthma and bronchitis to sleep-related disorders to rare diseases of the chest. Advanced Lung Disease Program
Montefiore Einstein’s Advanced Lung Disease Program is the only provider of treatment for interstitial lung disease and advanced emphysema in the local community. The Program brings together a team of pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, rheumatologists and other related specialists who work collaboratively to provide innovative, personalized care for advanced lung disease including the most complex cases.

Thoracic Surgery
Our thoracic surgery care is state-of-the-art in treating benign lung diseases, lung tumors and emphysema. To deliver the most advanced surgical solutions and improve patient outcomes, our multidisciplinary team of thoracic, cardiothoracic, and vascular surgeons collaborate closely and use minimally invasive lung surgery, including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted surgery.
Using the most advanced technologies and therapies available, our team regularly treats some of the most complex cases:
- Patients who need pre-transplant external oxygen or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation heart support, known as ECMO
- Multi-organ transplants, including heart-lung, lung-liver, and lung-kidney
- Combined transplant and cardiac surgery
- The one and only destination in New York for bloodless transplantation.
