Science at the Heart of Medicine
At our Department of Anesthesiology, research is at the heart of developing state-of-the-art, high-quality perioperative medicine, anesthesia care, pain management and critical care for our patients. Our teams across Montefiore Einstein use findings and knowledge from advanced clinical and lab-based research to inform decisions in clinical procedures, clinical operations and quality improvement. Through our national and international collaborations and participation in innovative, multicentric studies, we contribute to global progress in perioperative medicine.
Data-Driven Discoveries
The Digital Health Laboratory is the cornerstone of clinical and observational research at Montefiore Einstein’s Department of Anesthesiology and comprises a team of clinician scientists, research fellows, data scientists and epidemiologists. Our researchers use the generation and analysis of highly granular, pharmaco-physiological patient data from more than one million patients to understand the effects of new medications on patients’ recovery from surgery or critical illness. This information enables the team to identify rare complications and is the foundation for individualized perioperative treatment. By harnessing Montefiore Einstein’s database of unique patient demographics, we focus on projects that evaluate social determinants of health.
