We emphasize progressive independence and graded competence for all our IR residents and fellows. Residents learn to assess, intervene and manage patients from a wide range of backgrounds, and are given increasing autonomy in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Our residents participate in the complete range of interventional procedures for all patients - from pediatric to geriatric – including the following:
Traditional Vascular Services
- Diagnostic angiography and angioplasty
- Stents and stent grafts (e.g., mesenteric artery stenting, aortic aneurysm repair, etc.)
- Arterial and venous thrombolysis
- Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement
- Uterine fibroid embolization
- Management of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Hemodialysis graft management
- Embolization of vascular lesions
- Venous access
Nonvascular Interventional Procedures
- Imaging-guided biopsies and abscess drainages
- Percutaneous nephrostomy & ureteral stent placement
- Biliary drainage and stent placement
- Percutaneous feeding tubes
- Percutaneous osteoplasty (i.e. vertebroplasty)
Interventional Oncology
Our interventional team is an integral member of Montefiore's liver service, performing the following specialized treatments in both pre- and post-transplant patients:
- Trans arterial chemoembolization (TACE and DEB-TACE)
- Y90 Radioembolization
- Trans jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement
- Radiofrequency and cryoablation of tumors.
