For Visitors

When you’re visiting a loved one or family member receiving care with us, we aim to make your experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible.

Plan Your Visit

All patients may have two visitors at a time during the visitation hours of 9:00 am – 9:00 pm daily. The only visitors allowed during other times are those qualifying for exceptions: pediatrics, labor and delivery, end-of-life situations, patients being discharged and those with cognitive or developmental impairments.

Pediatric patients may have one parent/caregiver at the bedside at all times during their hospitalization. During the hours of 11:00 am – 9:00 pm, another family member or caregiver, aged 12 years or above, can be at the bedside with a maximum of 2 individuals at the bedside at a time.

Patients in the Emergency Department may have one visitor, although at times, visitation may be limited due to the acuity and volume of patients in the Emergency Department.

Visitors must follow all PPE guidelines including the use of a mask based on clinical needs of the patient and as directed by hospital staff.

For ambulatory same-day procedures, patients may be accompanied by one support person of their choice (such as a spouse, partner, sibling, parent, or other designated individual), who may accompany them to triage and be present in the PACU to assist them.

For patients in the Emergency Department, one visitor is permitted; however, visitation may be limited or temporarily suspended based on patient acuity, department volume, overcrowding, emergent patient care needs, or during shift changes to support patient handoff and care. Visitors must follow all PPE requirements, including wearing a mask when clinically indicated and as directed by hospital staff. Support persons and visitors should be 16 years of age or older unless a temporary exception is approved.

For pediatric patients in the Emergency Department, one parent or caregiver may remain at the bedside throughout the hospital stay (including parents under 18 years of age), and one additional visitor is permitted. Visitation is limited to two adult caregivers per family, and at least one caregiver must remain with any patient under 18 years of age at all times.

The following visitor guidelines are designed to support a safe, comfortable, and positive experience for patients, families, and visitors.

While receiving care, we want you to feel at home as much as possible, but please do keep personal items to a minimum. We suggest you bring only necessary personal items, such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures and canes as needed. Much of what you’ll need during your stay will be provided by the hospital. We recommend leaving any unnecessary items at home or sending them back with family.

Please do not bring:

  • Valuables like cash, credit cards and jewelry, including wedding rings
  • Large electronics, such as tablets, laptops and portable video players

If you can’t leave your valuables at home, please speak to a member of your care team to arrange for them to be put in the hospital safe. A written receipt—which must be presented at the time of withdrawal—will be provided.

Montefiore Mount Vernon is not responsible for the loss or damage of any personal property.

Cell phone use is permitted, unless otherwise noted by hospital personnel or posted signs. Certain areas are off-limits, such as where cell phones could potentially interfere with medical equipment or disrupt patients.
