Carol A. Sheridan, RN

A Legacy Gift Five
Decades in the Making

For nearly 50 years, Carol A. Sheridan, RN, has devoted her career to caring for Montefiore Einstein patients affected by cancer—a calling that began when she was a nursing student and continues to shape her legacy today.

Carol grew up in the New York City housing projects, the daughter of first-generation parents who never finished high school. Her early encounters with healthcare came through public health clinics, and even in high school, she knew she’d need a career that was both meaningful and sustainable. Nursing offered both.

Over the years, Carol’s work expanded beyond patient care to include leadership and innovation. At Montefiore Einstein’s Moses Campus, she ran two oncology floors, as well as a team that participated in a groundbreaking national clinical trial for CAR T-cell therapy. This treatment—now transforming cancer care worldwide—has saved the lives of patients who once had no options. “What I’m proudest of,” she says, “is that our team helped bring this therapy to thousands of people who might otherwise have died. It’s not just about the shift you work—it’s about the impact you can have.”

Now, as she moves closer to retirement, Carol is ensuring that her impact will continue through a planned gift to Montefiore Einstein.

“When my husband and I needed to create a will, I asked myself, ‘What has been important in my life and how can I ensure that it continues into the future?’ The answer was Montefiore Einstein,” recalls Carol. “So, I decided to direct a portion of my life insurance policy to create a fund in the name of my dear friend and colleague Karen Wright.”

Reflecting on the past, Carol is determined to ensure the future.

“I’ve never been bored a single day in nursing,” Carol says. “Montefiore Einstein gave me a place to grow, to lead, and to make a difference. I want to give back so that generations to come have the same opportunity.”
