November 13, 2020
November 13, 2020—(BRONX, N.Y.)—Beth McLellan, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, has been named chief of the division of dermatology at Einstein and Montefiore Health System. Dr. McLellan will continue in her role as director of dermatology at Jacobi Medical Center.
Dr. McLellan, whose appointment is effective on November 16, 2020, is an expert in oncodermatology, the diagnosis, treatment, and management of dermatological malignancies and complications of cancer and its treatment. She has held positions at NYU School of Medicine and the NYU Langone Medical Center. She is also founder of the NYC Vitiligo Support Group.
“Dr. McLellan is an exceptional leader, outstanding educator, and role model for trainees and faculty,” said Yaron Tomer, M.D., professor and chair of the department of medicine at Einstein and Montefiore and the Anita and Jack Saltz Chair in Diabetes Research. “As a member of our faculty, she created the oncodermatology program at the Albert Einstein Cancer Center and the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, led an annual free skin cancer screening in the Bronx, and helped start a committee for diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency in dermatology. We are pleased to welcome her to this position and look forward to her work in expanding our research, training, and clinical care initiatives.”
Dr. McLellan is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, in Detroit, MI, and completed internal medicine residency training at Loyola University in Maywood, IL, followed by dermatology residency at Henry Ford Health System, in Detroit, where she was chief resident. Her research focuses on cutaneous toxicities resulting from cancer therapies including chemotherapy, targeted agents, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy. She is currently collaborating with Montefiore and Einstein researchers in infectious diseases, bioinformatics, and radiation oncology to examine the interconnected roles of the immune system and microbiome in driving radiation dermatitis.

Dr. McLellan will be the third chief of dermatology, succeeding Michael Fisher, M.D., who founded the division and served as chief from 1969 to 2006, and Steven Cohen, M.D., M.P.H., who has led the division since 2006. "I am looking forward to building on the strong traditions of Drs. Fisher and Cohen,” said Dr. McLellan. “I hope to grow the program while maintaining our values of providing compassionate patient care and excellent medical education."
Dr. Tomer praised Dr. Cohen’s accomplishments, noting that he expanded the dermatology faculty from two to 14 full- and part-time clinician-educators, expanded programs to include sub-specialization in dermatologic surgery and pediatric dermatology, among others, and created new clinical sites at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Wakefield, and Saint Barnabas.
