Montefiore Medical Center values the compassion and important contributions of our volunteers. Their dedicated support is a vital part of our commitment to exceptional care. More than 550 individuals from across the New York metropolitan area volunteer an average of twice a week. Many families and corporate volunteers donate their services to special projects and events.
Learning Opportunities for All Ages
Our renowned staff and state-of-the-art facilities provide a dynamic learning environment for those seeking to gain experience or share their time and knowledge with others.
Volunteers can serve in both patient-facing and non-patient settings across more than 200 departments. We take great care to match everyone with a meaningful and fulfilling assignment, recognizing the unique skills and interests they bring to our organization.
Our volunteers are appreciated and highly valued. Every April, we recognize the outstanding service of volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
Requirements for Becoming a Volunteer
Montefiore seeks volunteers who meet the following requirements:
- Commitment: Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service. To ensure your time is productive, we request that each session lasts at least three to four hours.
- Age: Volunteers must be 16 years old. Some roles, such as those in Maternal Child Health, require volunteers to be 18 or older. Please refer to the specific opportunity posting for details.
- Screening process: All volunteers undergo a thorough screening and training process to ensure our patients’ safety, health, and privacy. Interested individuals should complete an online application—applicants who meet the criteria may be invited for a video interview.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities – Summer 2025
We invite students aged 16 and older to apply for our summer volunteer program at Montefiore. This opportunity offers valuable experience in a clinical setting, providing non-clinical support across various departments within our hospital campuses and health centers. Your time with us will be well spent, and you will gain insights and skills that will be beneficial for your future career in the medical field.
The summer session runs from June to September, and the registration and onboarding process begins in the spring. Please note that onboarding and clearance typically take about one month. Placement is determined based on the needs of the hospital and the availability of the volunteer.
Orientations and interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis until all positions are filled. To secure a spot as a summer volunteer, applications must be submitted by the specific deadlines listed below:

We partner with SYEP and 1199 Youth Mentoring Program for summer youth opportunities. Our exclusive SYEP provider is Children Arts & Sciences Workshop.
