Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Meetings
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at Montefiore Medical Center ensures the safe and compliant use of biohazardous materials in clinical and translational research. The IBC reviews and approves protocols involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, infectious agents, select agents, and other potentially hazardous recombinant materials. The committee also provides guidance on risk assessment, containment practices, and required biosafety training.
For industry-sponsored research, Montefiore partners with BRANY (Biomedical Research Alliance of New York) to streamline regulatory review and facilitate timely, compliant study activation. The IBC is dedicated to promoting a culture of biosafety and supporting responsible, innovative research that protects staff, patients, the public, and the environment.
