Dementia Caregivers Support Group
“I felt so alone, overwhelmed. It was so nice to walk in here and know that in fact, I’m not alone.” – Participant.
With the increase in our aging population, the regrettable increase in the diagnosis of dementia has closely followed suit.
At the Center for the Aging Brain, we provide cutting-edge treatment for our patients living with dementia, but we also provide care and support for their caregivers, through our monthly Dementia Caregivers Support Group.
The Dementia Caregivers Support Group allows caregivers to meet together to discuss their experiences, share ideas, and provide emotional support for one another. It’s a place to gather, eat a small snack, be reminded to care for oneself, and at times includes small, self-care related gifts, such as a journal or meditation CD.
We envision expanding the Dementia Caregiver Support Group to include more caregivers, specialized groups based on a common caregiving burden, even field trips and day trips to provide respite for the caregivers. We would also like to expand our support groups to include a bilingual Caregivers Support Group to support the growing number of Spanish-speaking caregivers.
But these future plans can only happen with the financial support of others. Thank you for your interest and support.
