Montefiore Medical Center, through the Department of Family and Social Medicine, seeks to combine clinical excellence with a social and community-oriented perspective with the goal of serving a large and diverse patient population throughout the Bronx, N.Y., as well as the New York metropolitan area.

In addition to providing health care to all regardless of ability to pay, Montefiore proactively offers a range of community and family services, including healthcare for homeless persons, AIDS programs, community dentistry, an extensive school-based health program, home visits and other social services.

Both Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine have committed significant resources toward the further development of the Department of Family and Social Medicine, with a special emphasis on the growth of an academic and research agenda.

An important priority for us now is to integrate a vigorous research program together with excellent teaching and comprehensive clinical care on many levels.
