January 16, 2020—(BRONX, NY)—Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health System have received Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education, certifying their ability to provide interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) for members of the medical profession, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, social workers, and psychologists. Providers of IPCE seek to break down silos among various members of the healthcare team, leading to greater collaboration, enhanced communication, and better patient care. Einstein and Montefiore will offer the continuing education programs as part of ongoing licensing and certification requirements for medical and healthcare professionals.

“Receiving the six-year accreditation for IPCE demonstrates that Einstein and Montefiore provide innovative and authoritative training through our interprofessional continuing education program,” said Victor Hatcher, Ph.D., associate dean for continuing professional development and for research administration and professor of medicine and of biochemistry at Einstein. “The goal is to improve team collaboration and performance and deliver the highest quality patient care.”

The Einstein-Montefiore Center for Continuing Professional Development was established in 1976 and is one of the largest medical school-based providers of education for physicians and others through meetings, grand rounds, and other activities. The new IPCE status was awarded by leading accreditation bodies, including the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
