Guayaquil, Ecuador — Montefiore Einstein pediatric orthopedic surgeons Dr. Eric Fornari and Dr. Jacob Schulz, along with Chief Resident Dr. Steven Henick, recently returned from Guayaquil, Ecuador, where they partnered with Project Perfect World for the organization’s annual global outreach trip.

Each year, this dedicated mission brings together a multidisciplinary team of more than 25 medical professionals from across the United States with one shared goal: to provide life-changing orthopedic and prosthetic care to children who would otherwise go without. Over the course of the trip, the team performed complex surgical procedures, fitted children with custom prosthetics, and offered follow-up care and education to local providers to ensure lasting impact.

This year’s trip was no exception. Together, the team cared for more than 200 children and their families, including over 100 patients seen in the clinic, 80 who received orthotic or prosthetic care, and 26 complex surgical cases.

“As physicians, each trip serves as a powerful reminder of why we do what we do,” said Dr. Fornari. “It reinforces the importance of giving back, providing compassionate care, and creating opportunities for those in need. Through clinical care, teaching, and surgical education, we aim to enhance the lives of the children who allow us the privilege of participating in their care while supporting the growth and skills of our incredible local partners.”

Montefiore Einstein is proud to support physicians who embody the institution’s mission of advancing health and healing both at home and around the world. Through their compassion, skill, and dedication, Dr. Fornari, Dr. Schulz, and Dr. Henick are helping restore mobility, independence, and hope for countless children and families in need.

Montefiore Einstein extends its gratitude to Project Perfect World and the broader team of partners for their collaboration and shared commitment to global health.
