Montefiore Health System, the principal sponsor of Bronx Week 2016 and largest healthcare provider in the Bronx, will partner with community based organizations and local educational partners like Mercy College to educate local students and their parents about opportunities in the healthcare industry during its “Health at the Hutch” event today.

Students from Bronx Career Preparatory High School and Public School 89 will learn more about the patient-centered skills required in today’s healthcare environment directly from Montefiore associates and Mercy College graduates. The event will take place at Montefiore’s Hutchinson Campus, one of the largest ambulatory surgery centers in the New York Metropolitan area.

“We are committed to building a healthier community and environment for every resident of the Bronx,” said Melissa Cebollero, senior director of Community Relations, Montefiore. “We are especially excited to hold an event for high school students and their parents so they can learn about the resources available to them as they pursue new educational and employment opportunities, as well as improved health and wellness.”

Almost 20 different medical departments at Montefiore will participate in educational activities, such as expert panels and even a mock emergency department that guests can walk through to experience a day in a life of a healthcare provider. The participation of multidisciplinary experts reflects the team-based care of today’s healthcare environment and value and convenience of Montefiore’s Hutchinson campus which offers outpatient surgeries for ailments that once required hospitalization to treat.

All Bronx residents are invited to come spend 11am to 3pm engaging directly with healthcare professionals, to learn and participate in the growing facets of healthcare. The event, which is part of the annual Bronx Week, highlights the legacy of community organizations working together to improve the health and wellness of the borough.
