April 21, 2014
CHAM’S CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER PRESENTS
JAZZ AT NOON TO HELP COMBAT CHILD ABUSE
WHAT: The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) invites community members, patients and their families, and hospital associates to its Jazz at Noon event in honor of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month. The event is hosted by CHAM’s JE and ZB Butler Child Advocacy Center (Butler CAC) and will include a live jazz performance by the Christine Burlingame Trio. Members of the Butler CAC, including nurses and social workers, will be available to discuss healthy parenting, distribute materials about positive discipline practices and share information about the new “No Hitting Zone” program at Montefiore.
WHY: A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds in the United States, and more than four children die every day as a result of abuse. As the only fully accredited child abuse program in the Bronx, the Butler CAC at CHAM provides emergency care and support to young victims of abuse and neglect, crisis counseling to children and families and long-term mental health treatment. CHAM’s Butler CAC conducted child abuse evaluation services for 876 children at its two Bronx sites last year and provided trauma focused therapy for almost 200 victims of violence. The CAC is dedicated to improving the quality of life for abused and neglected children and their families with coordinated, culturally sensitive and multidisciplinary services that maximize safety and minimize trauma.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 23 from 12PM – 2PM
WHERE: Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses Campus: East Garden
