Leading Experts Tell Stories About Science-Driven, Patient-Centered Care

 NEW YORK (October 7, 2013) – Montefiore Medical Center today announced the launch of a one-month blogging initiative as part of the national Blogtober movement. “Blogtober at Montefiore” will feature an inside look into the work of the academic medical center’s leadership, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, government affairs staff and more. By linking through www.Montefiore.org, readers will get a sense of the extensive research underway at Montefiore, the innovative and compassionate care that is provided every day and the commitment the institution has for the community it serves.

“Blogtober at Montefiore allows us to share our vision for transforming healthcare and enriching the lives of patients,” said Andrew D. Racine, M.D., Ph.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer at Montefiore Medical Center. “The blog brings personal stories from hospital associates to life, while challenging the status quo in medicine and fueling conversation in the Bronx and beyond.”

New blogs will be posted on a regular basis throughout the month and will cover a variety of topics, including education about the Affordable Care Act and the new health exchanges, a compelling heart transplant story, advances in research for rare conditions such as Rett Syndrome and the role of reconstructive surgeons in breast cancer treatment.

Blogtober, or National Blogging Month, is a national movement that introduces people to the experience of blogging and encourages them to communicate their stories, interests and latest thinking. Blogs are intended to tell a story, connect a tribe, lead a movement and make change – all of which Montefiore is doing every day.

“Montefiore is made up of more than 19,000 dedicated associates – all with great stories to tell about the patients they work with and the lives they impact,” Dr. Racine said.
