April 9, 2024—BRONX, NY—Albert Einstein College of Medicine, a premier, research-intensive medical school, has earned a ranking of #21 in research and #29 in primary care in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Medical Schools rankings.
“Those of us at Einstein have long known what our new rankings reflect: we are an exceptional medical school and a top research institution,” said Yaron Tomer, M.D., the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean at Einstein and chief academic officer at Montefiore Einstein “While there are many metrics to assess success, the measure we most value is the commitment of our faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff to excellence in research, education, clinical care, and advancing health equity for our community.”
Einstein is the only medical school located in the Bronx, New York, the poorest urban county in the country, which has 1.4 million residents, more than many major cities in the U.S. Embracing the resiliency and diversity of the borough, the College of Medicine partners with community members to conduct research to better understand and dismantle health inequities, train future physicians to provide compassionate, patient-centered care, and advocate for improved healthcare for all.

Earlier this year, Einstein announced that all current and future medical students will have their tuition and fees covered beginning August 2024, thanks to the transformative gift from Ruth Gottesman, Ed.D., Chair of the Einstein Board of Trustees and Montefiore board member. The David S. and Ruth L. Gottesman Scholarship Fund was established to ensure that cost would not be a barrier for prospective students who are committed to Einstein’s mission, and to help diversify the nation’s physician workforce.
“Since its founding, Einstein has served as an agent of social change,” said Dr. Tomer. “We will continue to uphold these values as we continuously strive to improve our already outstanding medical school.”
