“Josh has demonstrated his collaborative spirit, keen leadership, and innovative and exacting approach to medical education since he was appointed assistant dean in 2012,” says Allen M. Spiegel, M.D., the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean at Einstein. “Respected among the faculty and admired by students, he is exceptionally well-positioned to take our medical education program to new heights of excellence.”

Dr. Nosanchuk will oversee Einstein’s medical education curriculum as it continues to evolve, building upon its academic strengths, most notably its basic science foundation, commitment to community-based programming and team-based learning, and rigorous clinical skills development. Infused with a humanistic approach to medicine, in which medical students are taught to advocate for their patients, Einstein’s medical training reflects the institution’s mission of promoting social justice and delivering quality care to all.

Dr. Nosanchuk will also direct the office of medical education, to which a number of other offices report. These include computer-based education, faculty development, education resources, and diversity enhancement.

“It’s a real honor and a privilege to take on this role at Einstein,” said Dr. Nosanchuk. “Our medical students distinguish themselves with their commitment to patient care, research, global health and engaging with our Bronx community. I look forward to working collaboratively with all our incredible educators, scientists and clinicians on these programs and to advance the overall educational missions of Einstein.”

For the past five years he has worked closely with the office of medical education to ensure that the total student experience with curriculum, clerkships and extracurricular activities achieve the highest levels of excellence. He chaired the student section for our 2014-15 LCME accreditation process. He has had extensive leadership experience on the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), currently serving on the NBME Management and Interdisciplinary Review Committees. He has also served on the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1 Committee.

Dr. Nosanchuk serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including the Journal of Infectious Diseases and Infection and Immunity. After graduating from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences, magna cum laude, Dr. Nosanchuk received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1992. He completed internship and residency at New York Hospital/Cornell, following which he performed clinical and research fellowships in the division of infectious diseases of the department of medicine at Einstein/Montefiore, and then joined the faculty in that division as an instructor in 1998.
