Community and Associates to Enjoy Music and Food While Learning Ideas to Create a Greener Home
WHAT: Montefiore Medical Center invites community members, patients and associates to its seventh annual Earth Day expo to learn about the benefits of sustainable solutions and environmentally friendly products that can be used at home. To celebrate this year’s Earth Day, musical entertainment and refreshments will be available to anyone interested in learning how to reduce energy, save money and create a greener home.
The event is hosted by Montefiore’s Engineering Department and will include representatives from Cree, GE, Rubbermaid, Con Ed, Grainger, Clorox Green Works, Earth Friendly Products and 511 Rideshare. Vendors and members of the Engineering Department will speak about alternative transportation options and household products that are environmentally safe, cost effective and work well.
WHY: Montefiore has been a leader in sustainability for nearly two decades, and continues to promote energy-efficient practices that will help create a greener and healthier Bronx. Montefiore continues to try to make a difference by designing greener medical facilities and hospitals, transitioning to more fuel-efficient hospital vehicles and using innovative recycling initiatives for medical devices and waste.
Most recently, Cintas Corp., the largest uniform supplier in North America, selected Montefiore as the winner of its annual Green Garment Award. Montefiore was selected to receive the award because it has purchased the most eco-friendly uniforms and helped divert more than 40,000 water bottles from landfills in 2013. Montefiore is constantly exploring environmentally responsible alternatives that will help the hospital be greener today and in the future.
