Resident Housing

Live and Work Close to the Best of Everything

The Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough, is a culturally rich neighborhood placed at the intersection of Manhattan and its surrounding regions. Our postgraduate trainees typically live in hospital housing or off-site in nearby Riverdale, Lower Westchester or Manhattan, and have access to an unmatched diversity of experiences beyond the program itself.

In the Bronx, with its ample parks and gardens, you’ll learn first-hand why it’s known as “the City’s Greenest Borough.” The neighborhood offers plenty of local food, art, sports and culture, and is just a subway ride away from Manhattan’s famed theaters, museums and attractions.

As a resident of the Tri-State region, you’ll have unmatched access to the city’s cultural offerings, not to mention the bounty of outdoor excursions that are available just beyond. Day-trips and weekend excursions to the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Long Island or New Jersey provide ample opportunities for swimming, hiking, biking, skiing and other seasonal activities.

Application Information

Housing applications for incoming house staff open April 1 at 8:01 a.m. Applications submitted prior to this time will not be considered. Completed applications must be submitted by May 1 to be considered during the initial assignment process.

Before applying, applicants are encouraged to review the housing information, property details, and frequently asked questions available on this site to better understand eligibility and expectations.

While the housing application is completed online, certain supporting documents must be submitted separately. Applicants should email notarized copies of a marriage certificate (if applicable), children’s birth certificate(s), and proof of current residence to the House Staff Office at housestaff@montefiore.org.

All communication regarding the status of your application will be sent via email using the address provided in your application.

Apartment Assignment

Housing at Montefiore Einstein is limited and not guaranteed, and apartments are reserved for house staff enrolled in programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or other board-accredited programs.

Applications received after May 1 will still be reviewed but will be considered after all on-time applications and without regard to assignment criteria such as distance from the hospital.

Applicants will receive an email with their assignment status by May 15, indicating whether they have been assigned an apartment or placed on the waitlist. If you have not received an email with an assignment by May 30th, you will be placed on the waitlist.

Once an apartment is offered, applicants have 48 hours from the time the notification email is sent to accept or decline the assignment. If a response is not received within that timeframe, the apartment will be reassigned to another applicant.

If assigned a unit, lease documents will be emailed no later than June 30.
