About

Tamar D. Lavy, MD, ABIHM, is an attending psychiatrist at Montefiore Einstein . Dr. Lavy’s clinical focus is in adult psychiatry, psychosis, addiction and substance use, holistic and integrative medicine and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

In 2006, Dr. Lavy received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and her Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies from the University of Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Canada. She then attended University of Tel Aviv in Tel Aviv, Israel, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2010. From 2010 to 2014, she was a resident in psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. During this time, she completed a fellowship in psychonanalysis in 2012.

Dr. Lavy’s research focuses on marginalized populations within psychiatry, psychosis, addiction and housing-insecure, as well as alternatives to hospitalization and psychosocial approaches to psychosis. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, presentations and workshops.

Dr. Lavy is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She is a member of the International Society for the Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis and Physicians for Social Responsibility.
