Complex Family Planning Fellowship

The Complex Family Planning Fellowship Program at Montefiore Einstein offers trainees a collegial learning environment that fosters collaboration, mentorship, creativity and excellence in clinical, scientific and academic settings. This two-year fellowship for obstetrics and gynecology residency graduates is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and provides subspecialist training in research, teaching and clinical practice in complex family planning, including complex contraception, advanced abortion care and management of pregnancy loss. Fellows will have opportunities for basic science and laboratory research, clinical trials, observational research including cohort and case-control studies, qualitative investigations and global health research and clinical work.

Research & Scholarly Activity

Areas of research and populations in focus within the Division of Complex Family Planning include: 

  • Contraception for women with medical conditions
  • Immediate postpartum contraception, including systems and implementation research, patient perspectives and experiences and provider education
  • Medical management of early pregnancy loss and intrauterine fetal demise—use of mifepristone
  • Reproductive health needs of HIV-positive women and girls

Fellows work clinically with the family planning service in the outpatient clinics and operating rooms at Montefiore Einstein and NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx Hospital an average of two days per week.
