Alyson Myers, MD, Named DOM’s First Associate Chair for Diversity Equity and Inclusion
September 17, 2021
Alyson Myers, MD, will join the Department of Medicine as the inaugural Associate Chair for Diversity Equity and Inclusion (AC-DEI). She will begin her tenure on January 3, 2022.

Dr. Myers comes to Montefiore Einstein from North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. An outstanding clinician, educator, and researcher, she is an attending endocrinologist and an Associate Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Health System Sciences, Merinoff Center for Patient-Oriented Research at the Feinstein Institute of Medical Research.
Dr. Myers’ clinical research focus has been on examining health care disparities in Type 2 diabetes. A member of Northwell's Health Equity Research Group, she is looking at data to determine satisfaction on outcomes of race and gender equality among medical students, residents, and fellows. Among her many accomplishments at Northwell, Dr. Myers served as the Physician Co-Lead of the Clinical Guidelines and Best Practice Inpatient Workgroup and completed the recertification of the hospital’s Joint Commission Certification in Inpatient Diabetes, which changed the culture of the nearly 800-bed facility.
In her role at Montefiore Einstein, Dr. Myers will provide vision and leadership to promote a departmental culture that values and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion through initiatives that are aligned with the DOM’s five-year Strategic Plan. Working closely with faculty and staff, search committees, residency and fellowship program leadership, and departmental/divisional leadership, she will design effective strategies for identifying, recruiting, and retaining underrepresented minority (URM) candidates and addressing bias in the screening and selection processes; create incentives to improve recruitment and retention of URM trainees and faculty; and develop plans to ensure equity across diversity status as it relates to salary, promotion, retention, mentoring, and leadership, among other initiatives.
A native New Yorker born in Brooklyn Dr. Myers recalls spending many days during her youth watching baseball at Yankee Stadium with her extended family.
“I am thrilled to be joining Montefiore Einstein and hope to build a lasting legacy for the Department of Medicine and future generations of physicians in the Bronx community,” Dr. Myers said.
Dr. Myers received her undergraduate degree in French Language and Literature from the University of Virginia. She earned her medical degree from SUNY Downstate, followed by a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center, in Chicago, and an endocrinology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern.
We are very fortunate to have Dr. Myers join our Department of Medicine family as the inaugural holder of this vitally important new position. Please join me in welcoming her to the department and to Montefiore Einstein.
